What drugs help with hair loss and what are the side effects?

There are only two FDA approved drugs that may help to maintain hair and help with hair loss. These two drugs are Propecia and Minoxidil. There are no known harmful effects of either medication when used as directed by the manufacturer. If you stop taking one of these drugs there will be no short term effects, but in about a month hair would reduce to pre-medication levels. Propecia could be harmful to a developing male fetus in a pregnant woman Minoxidil may cause palpitation, irritation, and dizziness.
